Covering 26 acres, Brucemore is an impressive estate! Brucemore is a historically recognized mansion located in the heart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Hummingbirds had the chance to visit and share all of its beauty on social media!

About Brucemore

The home was built between 1884 and 1886 by the Sinclair family, including a mother and her six children. It originally had three stories, 21 bedrooms, and was located on ten acres of land. In 1906, George and Irene Douglas traded homes with the Sinclair family, expanded the acreage, and transformed the interior of Brucemore to a lively and warm space.

Margaret and Howard Hall were the next and last tenants of the Brucemore mansion, leaving in 1981. They brought a modern sense of style and a whimsical spirit (with a pet lion)! They are still recognized today for their philanthropy within Cedar Rapids.

Since the Hall’s departure, more than one million people have visited the gorgeous estate. They hold community, cultural and heritage programs including themes like history, preservation, and the arts. Their vision has two parts. The first, “to expand the legacy of Brucemore’s families in making Iowa a better place to live, work, and visit.” The second is, “to model a balance of best practices in preservation and innovative use.” One example of this was their remodel of the Greenhouse in 2012, to grow something new in a historical structure.
