Tips to get selected for your favorite campaigns
tips to get selected for your favorite campaigns
There are two types of campaigns for hummingbirds to participate in: Brand Campaigns and Community Campaigns. Anyone can participate in a Community Campaign, but you must express interest and then be selected to participate in a Brand Campaign.
We know that sometimes it’s disheartening when you’re not picked for a Brand Campaign you were really looking forward to, so we outlined five ways to help you get selected more frequently!
1. Participate in more campaigns to build your profile
Brands love to see what other campaigns you've done! Expressing interest in multiple campaigns does not hurt your chance of being picked for the campaign you really want. In fact, the more campaigns you opt into, the better chance you have of being selected for campaigns in the future!
One of the best ways to get picked for the most in-demand campaigns is to participate in campaigns that are not as high-demand to help build your profile.
2. Communicate early and often
When you're selected for a campaign, you must confirm your spot within 48 hours. This gives us time to select a new bird if you decide you do not want to participate.
If you can no longer complete the campaign after confirming your spot, let us know as early as possible! We understand that things happen, but birds who stick to their commitments and/or let us know asap when a conflict arises, get picked for more campaigns. We want both you and the brands to have great experiences, and much of that comes down to the brands providing a great experience and our birds being reliable.
Please contact us ASAP if an issue arises by messaging the contact info found in the campaign information inside the hummingbird platform. This includes if you have an unforeseen conflict, haven't received a perk, have a poor experience, etc. If you’re not sure who your contact is, email help@thehummingbirds.co and we can help!
3. Keep expressing interest!
Just because a brand didn't select you the first time, doesn't mean they didn't want to select you! In fact, some brands look at your profile and past campaigns so closely that they might decide you’re a better fit for their next campaign.
As you may have noticed, most of our partners post campaigns quarterly, monthly, sometimes even weekly! If you don’t keep expressing interest, they cannot select you. In addition, if you loved participating in a campaign, you can be selected if/when the brand runs the campaign again.
Have you skipped expressing interest in a campaign because you didn’t think you were the best fit? It’s true that some brands are looking for birds that match their customer persona, but other times a brand might be looking for variety to expand their customer base! In the end, never be discouraged from expressing interest in a campaign.
Bottom line: keep expressing interest!
4. Always fill out your ‘bird blurb’
When you express interest in a campaign, you get the chance to include why you want to be selected. Adding a quick line or two can significantly improve your chances of being selected.
We recommend sharing why you're personally excited about the campaign, your plan for content if you’re selected, and if you’ll be sharing the content to multiple social media platforms outside of the requirements (TikTok, Facebook, etc.).
You won’t always be selected the first time you express interest, so we recommend saving your blurb in a notes app or document so you can use it again next time!
5. Create great content
Brands love birds who create engaging, authentic content! What exactly a brand looks for varies, but they often look for community-centric birds who are already showcasing their favorite things in their community. Participating in more campaigns and building your profile can also help with this!
Some more niche brands look for specific content. For example, a travel-focused brand is likely to pick birds who have already showcased travel reels. Likewise, a fitness brand might look for birds who are already actively sharing stories about their fitness classes or have feed posts about participating in active outdoor activities.
Remember, brands can’t see your profile if it’s private. If you have a private account, we respect your decision to keep it private, but birds with public profiles, especially creator accounts, are more likely to be selected. Happy campaigning!
